Hello,

Do you know of health insurance that would offer emergency only plans that would cover only hospitalizations for example for a low premium?

Dan

What is the typical plan for catastrophic health insurance (roughly / I know it varies according to ages...)?

You would probably be better off on the health insurance sub-forum of Health and Wellness.

There were quite a few life insurance companies that sold short term health insurance for cancer, accidents, etc. to individuals. Banker's Life was prominent in that business. They only sell supplemental insurance to people on Medicare now.

You can still buy individual health insurance policies from American Republic, Time Insurance Co. and Reserve Life Insurance of Dallas, TX depending on what state you live in.

There are Obamacare options for "Catastrophic Health Care". They are the lowest of the low, cheapest of the cheap, plans. I would caution buying such a bad plan, though. The deductibles are so high, and with no individual mandate, you would almost be better off not taking healthcare, pocketing the premium, and looking up the name of a good bankruptcy attorney if things do go bad.

Or you can spend (quite) a bit more for a plan that is actually usable.

If someone does not have much money, they can get a plan very affordably on the new GetCoveredNew Jersey site. My premium share for Blue Cross Omnia Bronze is $76.82 a month for 2021. It’s the same plan I paid for myself when I was working, and is $700 a month without subsidies.

New Jersey residents can no longer go to the ACA marketplace to get insurance because now New Jersey has their own marketplace.
