Why so cynical? $280k a year isn't unlimited money after taxes. This is the NY City Tri-State area, not Alabama, so the cost of living is very high.
I think the OP asked a very honest question and was hoping for some honest advice not trolling comments.
He may get some "honest" advice, but that shouldn't really be the goal. The goal should be to get qualified advice, with integrity, substance, validity, etc. However, I agree with you. Thank God trolls can be ignored.
Just for the record, and just to squash all of the insults, I apologize.
There was really no point in answering in that manner regardless of whom OP really happens to be, and really no point in responding the 2nd time. It's really not my intention to make people's days worse than they should be, and my comment had no bearing towards making anybody's day better.
our HHI is similar to yours, but we have several rental properties that provide additional passive income. we purchased a $900k house and are not house poor. we also live well below our means. 15 year old cars, no lavish vacations last year
it really depends on what your down payment is, which determines your monthly payment. also, taxes (and insurance to a lesser degree) go up every year like clockwork.

1) With the new payment can you continue to meet your savings goals?
2) If you lost your job, how long would it take to find an equally well compensated job? $300k jobs don't grow on trees. "Guaranteed cash bonuses" don't grow on trees. $80,000 cash would cover 12 months of $5500 PITI payments and $800 car payments.
