One can stand on the corner, watching all of the folks streaming toward Hoboken for dining and entertainment.

north bergen is not in bergen county.

for the most part, north bergen is safe. demographic is blue collar hispanic. the area by the cliff overlooking the city is safe and very scenic.
I would have no problems buying a home there. the further away from there however, is not somewhere I would invest.

Ha, I was thinking the exact same thing. It's a perfectly fine place, but I can't imaging a place any closer to Manhattan that has less going on within it's city limits.

I'm not an expert on North Bergen, but I had a storage unit there for a while on JFK and it was perfectly safe. But I'd argue that a single person not from the area would feel pretty isolated living there though, particularly if they are connected to Hoboken already and have an existing friend network there.

Lackluster dining & nightlife aside, if Weehawken is an option I'd pick that since it would be a better commute to Manhattan and closer to Hoboken for bars & restaurants.
