Umm. No.
Minorities may vote democrat. That does not make them liberal. You may want to recheck your statement. Some of the biggest resistance to gay marriage came from the black community. Jamaicans are also noted for their homophobia. Violent lyrics against gays in reggae songs is a big issue (i.e. beenie man, TOK, etc.)
Back to the original question, I'd say you will find gays in Union City. There may not be gay themed establishments in town, but there's a community. I bet there's an even bigger community in Jersey City, including Jersey City Heights. As with a lot of places in NJ, the gays head to NY for clubbing. But you will not lack for finding local friends in NJ.
