I think I saw something on this...was it Benzene contamination? Or is this the MTBE issue? Both are related to petroleum products... typically from a gas station leak or home owner oil tank leaks. Both are becoming a huge issue in this State... most homeowner's wells are showing levels of both - even sites that are no where near a gas station or home with an oil tank. Farms present issues as well as most have gasoline storage tanks on their property. You can go to the NJDEP website if you want additional information or if you want to call the Case Manager from the NJDEP who is handling this issue... This State has a "Right to Know" law - so they must talk to you. Google NJDEP SRP and look under "Known Comntaminated Sites"
this is sad. we have a gas station here ... super premium location. i was reading the land will be fenced off for the next like 12-15 years for whatever it is that they do. remediation.
From what I was told the Paramus Middle School and the town pool area have higher level of containments than the law allows.
Does anyone have info on this?
Not sure about the middle school but the pool is definitely closed due to contamination. I know that neighboring towns (including Ridgewood, where I live) offered Paramus residents to use their pools this summer.
They are not opening the pool this summer (it's right next door to the middle school).
