Basic facts
Me: 54
Wife: 52
Kid1: 13
Kid2: 11
House: $1M+, paid for
Property Taxes: $20K/year
Savings: $3M+, 60% in Roth, 20% IRA, 20% brokerage
Income: $300K+

We plan to spend around $150K-$200K/year in retirement

Basically it seems that it is no longer worth my effort to work. My kids will be hitting college in 5 years or so, so I am planning just calling it quits and retiring. Just trying to figure out the Healthcare/College things. NOTE: I plan to do everything LEGALLY. No off sure accounts to transferring money to a family member, etc

From my research, I can see that even though I have a large amount saved, things like NJ Family Care/Obamacare depend on income. So as long as I control what I take out of my IRA, and handle my dividends/capital gains intelligently, I should be ok ($36K/year) and get Medicaid for free for my family. Just trying to figure out how good these plans are now. Right now my company pays $20K/year and I pay another $12K for some High Deductible plan where I basically pay for everything out of pocket anyway. This has to be better right?

Also, when my kids hit college, they should basically get a free ride if I "control" my income as well (they are both Straight-A students in a top school system", so hopefully so top tier school that is free for people making under $50K/year)

Anyone have any experience with things like this? My concerns are things like "What if I am on NJ Family Care/Medicaid for free, and I accidentally go over the limit one year", and "should I get a small job to earn enough to add to my social security without losing other benefits" (I hit max SSI contributions for around 30 years) and "should I make a small amount to get all of the refundable tax credits for owning kids"

Anything else I can save on? Probably could get some kind of free cellphone, a discount on my property taxes, and maybe "Food Stamps" (SNAP), but I am sure there is more than I am "entitled to"

pay your fair share( well everyone except myself ) is the theme of many limousine liberals. we are living in a terrible time in this country where instead of striving to achieve this level of income, ppl vote to take it from others that worked for it.
And the Elite shield their own assets from their own ideology. Some people are incapable of realize their own immorality

good luck sir

I also love when some people say " We're all in this together". Yep I seen that when people were hoarding and fighting for toilet paper, fighting over politics, fighting over and cutting the line for a vaccine, who gets stimulus money and who doesn't. Newsflash- we're not in all this together.

If you want to save, GTFO NJ, because otherwise the taxes will kill you; you'll run out of money when you're in your 70s and the state will point and laugh and let you die. You're way above the Medicaid asset limits so you won't be obtaining free health care.

Which is just one of the reasons why the original post was an exercise in trolling.
With savings of $3M+, the OP knows that "some kind of free cellphone, a discount on my property taxes, and maybe Food Stamps (SNAP)" are all impossible--as they should be.

I read it as not trolling, but as gloating.

Yes, I suppose that is another possibility, but--either way--it is extremely inappropriate.

It is. I was going to say more but I would just sound crazy.
