The Crime rate in Teaneck NJ has sky rocketed in the past year and in the last 2 months really took off.

Some parts are nice but the parts that arnt individually now have crime rates competeing with Newark.

Does anyone have any idea why such a huge change?

Interesting link....

Not surprisingly, South Orange and Maplewood are pretty high on that list. I'm still perplexed at all the people on this forum that say those towns are so great.

SO and Maplewood might have a few bad neighborhoods, but overall, they are very nice safe towns. Besides, there is a huge difference between South Orange and Irvington.

They are generally nice towns, however they are both close to Irvington and the Vailsburg section of Newark, the central ward. These two areas are probably the most dangerous sections of North Jersey. You can drive down some of the side streets off of South Orange Ave in Vailsburg and people will be selling drugs in broad daylight. It is THAT bad.
