I just cruised through the Trenton audit and saw that most of the money spent was deemed to be "reasonable" but several thousand dollars went toward trips to Dorney Park,Thunder ball games, luncheons etc, etc...
25 cents for every dollar spent by these districts was determined to be unnecessary, excessive or lacking documentation.
What is completely unreasonable and unacceptable is the fact that these kids and the schools are less successful today than they were ten years ago.
The State of NJ contributed 3.1 billion to these Abbott schools
3.1 billion X .25.........someone remind me how many zeros are in a billion

Meaning the taxpayers who don't even live in these towns
It's one big wealth transfer. Many of the residents of Abbott School districts are either unemployed, or have low wage paying jobs. The income tax in N.J. is 'progressive' or a euphemism for socialist structure. Therefore, those *******s working 10 hour days in the suburbs are seeing their child's state portion of the school funding ravaged, and transferred to urban school districts. Many of the residents of suburban districts pay a higher % of income taxes, and this gets transferred to the Abbotts.
Can you imagine how even more disparate the urban versus suburban communities would be if the state of N.J. did not intercede?
Again, this comes back to people. People who have an ability to manage their lives and tend to a household, versus those who have no such ability. The state is attempting to compensate for the shortfalls of a group of people who lack those abilities, and in doing so, plunder those who are successful.
Why? Up until 10 years or so ago, no one in their right mind wanted to live there, so the schools went to crap. Many of the developments built since then were only done because of tax abatements, so the tax base isn't what it should be. Now add in the fact that any of the high-salaried people who've moved in who happen to have kids typically send their kids to private schools, and you've got a school system full of only the bottom-tier kids, with no internal tax $$ to support it. The same thing happens in West New York, Union City, Jersey City, et al, where none of the new residents want to use the schools, and the tax abatements keep $$ from funding the system, so who steps in? You do, of course........

To be candid, this wouldn't be horrible if the money was actually spent well.
I'm not at all against providing an equal start, as best we can, educationally (or medically, imho), but thats not really what we are doing here. What we are doing is wasting tax dollars, through inadequate administration, wasteful building, and a corrupted school commission.

Exactly!! The way it's set up currently it's not working
