Spouse wants to drive to the NJ Festival of Ballooning tonight (about an hour away). Doesn’t want to pay the $$$ entrance and parking fees and says surely we can just find someplace nearby where we can park and see the balloons.

I’m not sure it’s a good idea. It’s a long drive, we’ll have our four year-old with us, and the Yelp reviews of the event say that traffic and parking in that area is a nightmare. Plus, if they’re getting away with charging $40 a head, I’m sure there isn’t going to be some magical place nearby where we can comfortably park and then watch the balloons for free.

Anyone have any feedback on this before I talk them out of it? Can the balloons be seen outside of the airport, or do you absolutely have to purchase a ticket in order to get to an area where you can see them?

I would Google map the area using satellite view and see what you can find. The air balloons are enormous, so I can't imagine you have to be right on the fairgrounds to see them.

The area is pretty flat so you'll be able to see anything that's up. There's a Wendy's and ShopRite a few miles north of the airport.

Those balloons are always bad news. Some ex hippie usually ends up crashing it into electrical lines and causing fatalities, or ends up setting a fire on someones head.

We all know that they weren't going to go there. He didn't want to drive the :::gasp::: hour to get there.

We went once 3 years ago and we loved it.

So this year I bought the tickets from groupon at 50% off the retail price, a month ago.

We went Saturday 1 pm, 4 of us. it was pretty nice to see a lot of people, most without a mask, a lot of vendors, but food was really expensive $ 14 for chicken fingers and some frence fries, lemonade was $8, which I thought was rip off because they don't let you bring food, so we spent about $80 on food and drinks.

Around 4 pm is when a lot more people started to come in, thousands more, the lawn was full of people. schedule says 6:30 pm when the balloons go up. but it never did due to 8 mph wind? I did watch them struggling to get the balloons up, we were disappointed. we left around 8 pm

Heading home was a huge nightmare due to all the cars exiting.. we waited an hour to get out to the main roads.

It looks as though there was enough to do.
