EAST ORANGE — She didn't go "missing." She just didn't want to be found by her mother, officials say.

The mother of a 14-year-old girl who made headlines after going missing for a month has now been charged with child endangerment a day after her daughter was found in New York City, where she had been staying at a shelter.

After a media blitz about her disappearance, Jashyah Moore walked into an NYPD precinct in Harlem but was not immediately reunited with her family. Turns out, there was a reason.

Agree. Let this woman have her day in court. The daughter might be exaggerating the situation or telling outright lies because she didn't expect all the publicity. She might be afraid of getting into trouble now.

As for the son getting taken out of the house: I have very little confidence in the sometimes seemingly arbitrary decisions of overworked and understaffed caseworkers trapped in a government bureaucracy. There are countless examples of obviously abused children being left with or returned to their abusers, only to be killed by them later. So too, stories of good parents who have had children removed due to baseless claims of abuse in a bitter divorce/custody battle. The system is broke.

If she's abusive, throw the book at her. But let's find out the facts first.
