Hi all, after a lot of searching for towns and schools we deiced to take a serious look at Bergen towns. The only town I don't know much about is Mahwa.
I have two daughters that are academic rockstars and a son who is severely autistic and non verbal.
We are focussing on Rigewood, Montvale, Closter etc.
Would someone shed some light on demographic etc about the Mahwa school district.
Hubby also needs to be able to get to Manhattan 2 days a week.
Mahwah would be a step below those other towns in reputation. I cannot speak to the special education programs of those towns (or any towns), but Mahwah's schools are still fairly well regarded. Mahwah is a strange town in that homes are essentially either McMansions or townhomes/condos. Ramsey Route 17 station would be the best method to commute, though if you lived in Ridgewood, you would have access to the train, as well as a direct bus route to NYC.

Thank you so much ...that confirms my suspicions..

Mahwah was one of the last towns to be developed in Bergen County. There was still a lot of open land 30 years ago, farms, horses, etc., so when it did get developed, yes, it got the late-20th-century mix of McMansion-or-townhouse development. The 1960s split-level development that happened in other area towns didn't hit there. There is some older housing stock north of 17. A friend of mine lived there in the older house her husband inherited from his parents, but when my cousin and I were kids in the 1960s and writing letters to each other (five miles apart, lol), she still had an RFD# for an address instead of a house number. That was in the section called Fardale. Now the farms that were across the street and behind her are townhouses, but that didn't happen until the late 80s or 90s.
It's large in area. Not sure how the schools are, but pretty sure they are not Ridgewood-level.
