Hello,

My husband is considering applying for a job in Colt's Neck, and I am just looking for opinions on the area. Schools don't matter as our daughter is grown. Safety is big. It looks like it is really close to water, which both my husband and I love! However, is it an area that gets very congested in the summer months with tourists? I know it says it is rural, so I am guessing that would not be an issue, but just wondering if all of the surrounding areas get crazy so that shopping and the such is nightmarish. Any insights would be great!

Is not far from places that get very congested in the summer months with tourists, but Colts Neck itself is not a destination for tourists. Smiled at the idea of lack of safety there. It is a lovely, high-end town with an "affluent country" feel, known for its thoroughbred horse farms.

It has a very nice county park--Dorbrook--within its borders.

You would be maybe 20 minutes from the New Jersey shore beaches, but you would learn which ones get most congested in summer compared to others. And you would learn the secret to living in eastern Monmouth County: before the tourists come Memorial Day weekend, and when all the tourists go home after Labor Day, you can truly enjoy the ocean.

I did a search on Realtor.com, and it appears to be very expensive. Are there nice areas outside of this town that are a bit more affordable?

Oh yes, it is very expensive. I think Bruce Springsteen paid six million for his Colts Neck property with room to keep his horses.

Yes, there are less expensive places in the area. What's your budget for a house? That would help.

You can spend your entire life in Colt's Neck and not know that their are major tourist areas nearby. The shore is basically 150 miles long, and if you are more than a mile inland, it's as if it's not even there.

Our budget is WAY under the average price in Colt's neck! I'd say $300,000 MAX. Ugh, this might not be possible for us.

You wouldn't even get into Sayreville for that. Townhouse might be the way to go.

Yup. Check townhouse complexes in nearby Tinton Falls.
