I'm a lawyer, and I've handled hundreds of evictions. You need to file an "ejectment" action. Counties handle these cases differently. In Hudson, they're handled very much like landlord-tenant, and you shouldn't have too much of an issue getting a writ of possession eventually. In Essex, ejectments take more time for some reason. Those are the only 2 counties I've had ejectments.

If you self-help, a judge will throw the book at you. I'd drop you as a client on the spot.

EDIT: I'll just add, to avoid all this, tell this squatter you'll give him $1000 to leave next week. Court is slow, lawyers cost money, and paying off poor people works pretty well.
That may be the best option.

Question: How long has it taken you for an ejectment action in both counties ? Weeks? Months? I’m currently in middlesex and will be going this route.

I got six of my brothers together and told him to GTFO.

No but in all honesty,I told him to leave and he just got up and left for good!
This was at the end of March 2022.

It's not the same. A hotel can't be considered someone's residence. But if this guest changed her address, is getting mail there, etc, then a formal eviction process has to be done. It doesn't matter that there's no lease.
