It's an easy commute compared to Atlantic City, and that whole area of Monmouth County has quite a bit of daily commuters into NYC
Ha, yeah, AC is another 80 miles down the Parkway, and yes, the North Jersey Coast Line trains were always packed. I was shocked when I moved down there how many people I knew from work who were on my train line!
And it’s unbearably hot weather in Vegas for half the year.
I know, but tourists prefer Vegas with air conditioning in casinos and monorail, and pools in hotels to help keep cool for those very hot months that area at least
not humid, than dealing with cold, rain, overcast and desolation of NJ in the winter months.
However, I don’t know how rosy it is for the Vegas and other cities in the Southwest with water shortages likely in their future.
Bourre recently closed for good....sign of the times. I do plan on going for a couple days next week. I will report back on how busy it is. In year's past, the week between Christmas and New Years has normally drew a nice crowd.
Not even sure even why any of the casino that been closed or shut down, have not been given over to the highest bidder no matter how low the bid is? What is the point of hanging on to the property that is not making any money?
I am not sure if any are closed. I have not followed this in a while. I was planning on going this past summer, but I dont remember what happened, and why I havent. LOL I dont even remember what I did this past summer.
I'm glad I got to experience the casinos when they first opened in the 1980s. I worked at Resorts for a few years. Living on my own for the first time. It was an exciting time. You could go out to the city and find all sorts of entertainment at just about any hour. Many a night I went right from some nightclub to work. Those were some miserable working days, But live & learn.
I got to see a lot of great boxing matches at Resorts. Frank Fletcher was a big draw in those days. Plus locals like Dwight Braxton. Frank Sinatra & Diana Ross were the big draws at the shows. But nothing ever stays the same. My last visit there was a real eye opener. I hardly recognized the place.
I just got back from AC. I was there from this past Tues til today. When I first arrived on Tues, everywhere I went was very packed. There was even a 10 min wait for the elevators at Trop. However, I think I just caught the tail end of some kind of convention in town. The only places with live entertainment I found during the week was a new spot inside Ocean Resort called Nola's. In fact people were dancing and it was quite lively. However, things really got quiet on Wed and Thurs, with the exception of Irish Pub. It was more of a tourist trap because everyone was going to check out their huge Christmas light display. Tenn Ave Beer Hall also had a fairly big crowd during the week. But, that was about it. I still met several different people from all walks of life and enjoyed myself. However, prices at many places are very high to the point where people just turn around and walk out. I think outside the summer season, the only thing that is keeping AC afloat are the various conventions. Many restaurant/bar workers basically told me that its the only time when they get busy off season is when a convention comes to town. But it was definitely not as busy as it was in 2019. I still hope to return in the spring when weather is warmer.
They should focus efforts into turning AC into a very nice beach resort akin to Waikiki Beach. AC can be Waikiki Beach on the east coast.
I dont know why the developers, owners/speculators of the Boardwalk, and the casino/hotels are not trying to do more. Maybe they are breaking even with what they have or are making enough profit, and dont want to take more risk.

They tried to do that, that is exactly what Revel was. It operated as a resort on any island would. They had a private beach, kayaks on the beach, yoga on the beach, surfing lessons etc. There was so much to do in the hotel that you never had to go to the casino. When they first opened, and I went on the tour, I can’t express how impressed I was with it, I really thought this was a new beginning for Atlantic City to turn it into that kind of a resort.
The rooftop deck was absolutely amazing. Rockers lining the roof overlooking the BW, 40,000 trees and native plants with fire pits, butlers, etc. First thing they said on the tour, “Revel is not a casino. Revel is a resort that has a casino.” However, it flopped miserably. To this day, I have no idea why. I really think people just didn’t appreciate it for what it was or didn’t understand what they were trying to be.
