I lived in NJ all my life. Never heard of either Pitman or Woodstown.

Exactly. They are nothing special, but they are the best in their counties. Middle-of-the-road downtowns in some other counties, like Tenafly or Verona, are better than them.

Having lived most of my life in Bergen County with about ten years in Passaic County (West Paterson, now changed to Woodland Park), I did not know a lot of NJ towns existed until I came to City-Data in 2009. New Providence? I'd never heard of it. Same with some others.
