Ok, here is the deal....my husband is now working in Trenton and we need to shorten his horrible commute! We have been bombarded with suggestions and I wanted to ask city-data.com users their opinion....

Bucks County (Yardley, Newtown) .... are they nice? Would this run about 20 minute commute?

Monmouth County - people say "western monmouth"..... is this the Manalpan area? Manalapan schools seem really good but is it a "community" type of place. Is Freehold?

We were also told about Monroe Twp - how is this community?

We have 2 very young kids but want this to be our last move and are looking for a great neighborhood with young familes and good school system.

Any ideas/advice would be great!!!

i'm from west windsor..high taxes, Newtown is a real nice town so is Yardley but Yardley sometimes floods due to the river. both are real close to trenton. monroe is mostly adult [over 55] living so the schools budget get s voted down a lot because most have no kids and can't afford higher taxes.. it is about 45 min.s from trenton. Hopewell is nice too. i hope this helps you..

I grew up in Roosevelt NJ in Western Monmouth county. Very small town with a cohesive community and a great elementary school, a 20 minute ish drive to Trenton via the back roads and 195.

lafinmail,
Depending on your price range, you have some great school options within striking distance of Trenton.
As wasqaz said, West Windsor has really good schools, but because of that home prices are high and taxes are high too. The commute to Trenton from WW is about 20 min (to downtown). Monroe does have a large 55+ population that does not support the schools and they are having some kinda dispute over the building of their new HS.
Manalapan will be a 30-45 min commute to Trenton, but I hear their schools are pretty good.

You might want to look at Pennington, a great little town (about 20 minutes from Trenton) with great schools.
Robbinsville would be a slick commute to Trenton and has a brand new HS which is quite promising (they have not had a graduating HS class yet).
Cranbury, which is a cute little town with good elementary schools. They send their kids to Princeton HS, which is consistantly great.

Depending where you are in PA (Bucks Co) you could be 20-30 mins from Trenton. The Council Rock School District is huge and serves Lower Bucks Co. including Newtown Borough/Township, North Hampton and Upper Makefield.
Good luck with your search!
