He will travel very early in the am 5-6 am on most days, coming home around 4 or 5. The most impt. thing is a very family friendly neighborhood. Prefer somthing with low taxes.
How far is it to Patterson, Passaic from those towns?
if he's traveling off hours, it's about 1 hr.
if you pull out a map, prices start to drop precipitously once you are west of Rockaway (off of Rt. 80) - with the exception of Mendham and Chester (which is south of 80, off Rt. 24). You can get a nice place for $500K (4 bdrms even) in all the towns mentioned - especially now.
If you decide to move further east, you will not get as much for your dollar, but could probably get a 3bdrm in your range.
My opinion, out of all the towns mentioned, Long Valley (aka Washington Township MORRIS County) has the best schools - because, simply, it's a more affluent town than the others. In terms of schools, the higher the median income, the more highly regarded the school system is.
Tell me about taxes in Long valley? are they gonna kill us?
LOL - depends on your definition of "kill"! I would say, a 4bdrm house in your range (and that's on about 1/2 acre of land), is going to run you around $8500/yr. Is that high? Absolutely! Is it high for what you get by NJ standards? Not really. LV is probably one of the most "lower" taxes towns in the area - definitely lower than Mansfield and Hackettstown. The township committee usually does a good job keeping the increases down.
What are the best and worst times to travel in N. NJ?
traveling to S. Plainfield shouldn't be a big issue if you focus your search in the areas mentioned. the paterson/passaic is more of a PITA - my husband works in paterson and leaves at 6:30am, and he's in work by 7:40am most days. he leaves at 4pm and is home by 5-5:15pm.
