We've been looking in the Strathmore section of Matawan and the Monmouth Heights section of Marlboro. The style of homes are practically the same. You get a little more property in Marlboro, but the prices are a little cheaper in Matawan.

We know Marlboro has better schools and is in most respects a nicer town.

Matawan has the train station which we need. It also has a main street that we think has potential to be a nice little 'town center' if they ever get their act together. We think Matawan has great potential.

We don't have kids at this point, but we probably will in the near future.

Where would you buy?

I would go with Marlboro but that's just my opinion.

Good luck!

Marlboro has the rep and schools. Also good for resale.

How things change...When I was a kid, Marlboro was a terrible place because it was mainly just known as a state mental hospital.
We would say such stupid stuff like, "Your mother is crazy, she should go to Marlboro."

That was wayyy before all the very expensive homes that were built since then, LOL!

Why not check out the Lakeridge section in Old Bridge. It's just off Route 516 and 2 minutes from Matawan and the train station is a few minutes away.

The homes are the same style as Strathmore and Marlboro Heights but larger, (ie: ranch in Lakeridge has 4 bedrooms, large family room, fireplace and 2 car garage). Plus they have a poolclub just for the development like Monmouth Heights.

I live in Matawan and it is fine. I really like being walking distance to the train station, it makes the commute bearable. If you live in Marlboro, add 15 minutes, plus you have to get up very early to get a parking spot.I understand about the schools, no question Marlboro is better. On Main St., things are improving, hopefully the trend will continue.
