I currently live in brooklyn but am planning to move to manalpan or marlboro. I do not have a car and do not know how i will get to work. i would like to know how long it would take to get to brooklyn and back. it would also help if someone could tell me how much it costs

the suburbs are not a place to be without a car, there is no direct way to get to brooklyn from marlboro, you'll have to go through manhattan and it will take a couple of hours, maybe you need to reconsider your move

That is about a 1 hour and 30 minute drive without traffic. Once you factor in traffic, you are in for a long haul EACH way which is probably going to be at least 2 hours and more like 2.5 hours or more.

Yeah I haven't heard of anyone living in those areas without a car. I mean I'm sure it has been done before (anything is possible) but it is definitely not the norm, for good reason; it would be very difficult to get around effectively without a car. If you want to live somewhere without a car I would suggest staying in NYC. There are few places, if any (I can't think of any off the top of my head -maybe a Newark or Jersey City?) that you can get around in NJ effectively without a car.

My husband sometimes commutes from Middletown to Brooklyn with a car and it is a nightmare most days.
Marlboro and Manalapan would be an even harder commute by car. Without a car-impossible. Sorry.

Just getting to and from the bus or train without a car would be a royal PITA unless you live within a short walk of a stop (which probably 95%+ of those towns isn't). You'd also have a hard time just getting necessities like groceries, etc., as the "corner store" that you're used to walking to in Brooklyn doesn't exist anymore in the burbs.

What time do you have to be at work? If its before 9, then it is an awful commute.

I commute from around there to bensonhurst and it takes me about 40 minutes as I have to be at work by 10

You need a car to get to Brooklyn. I grew up in Manalapan and have high opinions of the town. If you need a good realtor check out nattysellshomes.com

Good luck
