Deal, West Long Branch, Ocean Township, Rumson, Long Branch,
Bradley Beach, and Loch Arbor are some of the towns in Monmouth County with nice Jewish communities, and pretty towns as well.
This is slightly off topic, but can anyone recommend any nice Jewish communities like all the NJ towns mentioned in a nice sunny warm location like Florida? Even better if they have a great little down town like Ridgewood. Maybe some snowbirds out there will be able to answer.
Are you looking for an Orthodox community? The largest Orthodox communities in Bergen County are Fair Lawn and Teaneck. My OB-GYN moved out of Ridgewood because she wanted a bigger Jewish population. She moved to Woodcliff Lake.
I vote for Maplewood and South Orange.
If you want to head south, try Deal and Elberon in Monmouth county.
Your husband can take the ferry into Wall st. {38 minute fast ferr}
I work in Teaneck and was surprised to find out that there is a HUGE Jewish population there (complete with Kosher shops, etc.).
If your looking for a jewish neighborhood West Englewood District in Teaneck is almost 100% jewish. Its pretty nice. The other 70% of the town is a total ****hole though. And if you move there be prepared to send your kids to private schools because the public schools are ranked in the same boat as New Brunswick and Elizabeth and some Paterson schools. I know this because I went through the system.
Maplewood is a mixed bag but with a strong Jewish group. South Orange as well.
If you are commuting to Wall Street Maplewood is the place to go. A train gets you to Hoboken in 35 minutes and the PATH will get you downtown in 11 minutes from Hoboken. While not as commutable as Maplewood, 40% of Livingston's population is Jewish.
We currently live in South Orange and can walk to any of TWO conservative schuls, ONE reform or ONE orthodox schul within 15 minutes. There's a great kosher butcher (Zayde's) in South Orange and another (Maple Leaf) in Millburn. The town is quite diverse and while it's not a VERY Jewish town, it is enough to feel comfortable. The commute to NYC can't be beat. (Same for Maplewood)
However, the schools are unpredictable and taxes are very high. The town is also extremely liberal (which you may view as a pro or con).
If you want better schools, lower taxes, and still a great commute, check out Millburn.
We are also looking to move - looking for better schools, lower taxes, and don't need it to be commutable. But we still want a strong Jewish community.
