I'm thinking of doing a half day trip down to the Jersey shore on Sunday. Not exactly sure which one to hit, probably Point Pleasant. I realize the traffic on the south bound GSP will be horrible for most of the time, but will the traffic get lot less congested and open up in the Sunday afternoon, say after 3pm?

Do you mean the beachgoers are all heading back home up north by that time?

Anyway, so you don't think it'll be too bad driving down GSP south during Sunday in the afternoon?

You should be fine going South. Many people leave early on Sunday to "beat" the rush, lol

You should be fine heading south on Sunday afternoon- getting back in the afternoon could prove to be pretty painful though.

GSP south on sunday will be fine. South on Saturday afternoon will be busy. Stop and go traffic the whole way probably.

I have never been to the shore without hitting some traffic going one way or the other. It seems like I try to plan it well but I always get screwed! Now that I am moving back to Jersey soon, I have just accepted the fact. Pay the price for a nice day at the beach! It's worth it to me

Well, it did rain this week, so you might want to go to rethink your plans because of this: Atlanticville - New Jersey beaches awash in litter

I don't think it should be too bad going south, although, you never know because it is Father's Day! There could be a lot of people going both ways to visit their daddies. However, the traffic will be horrible heading back up north!
