I could be mistaken but I seem to recall that in NJ a cross bow is classified as a firearm.

A firearm being a device that launches a projectile weather the propelling force being chemical, spring, compressed ages etc. The thing is it's got a "trigger"
and that for the pin head bureaucrats makes it too dangerous for the general public.

I don't have the time this afternoon to look it up but I do recall reading that some years ago...

The debate isn't so much what it is, but rather when it can be used. No matter what the state classifies it as (firearm or bow) they can still decide whether or not to allow its use for hunting during a given season. I haven't really taken a side as I don't bowhunt, but as a casual observer it seems to me that some bowhunters don't want what they consider to be "slob-gun hunters" in the woods with them during bow season. As a safe, responsible, and ethical shotgun hunter I've always taken offense to that stereotype, so I just stay out of it.

Those who do not wish to hunt with one won't, those who do will, NJ F&G get much needed revenue (and it's substantial based on other states data) NJ bow hunters would have a much stronger voice to keep a Bow ONLY season.......a "win-win"
Sorry to interrupt but how will adding the cross bow have any mmore effect on hunter popularity then if they made rifle legal in new jersey?
