Hi,
we have just moved from Dallas to New jersey. Family of 2.
we are looking for 1 bedroom appartment. my work place is in Iselin , near woodbridge, Middlesex couty. Commuting 20-25 miles is ok, if it's a good appt... middlesex county not a constraint.
if somebody could suggest appartments/ communities with the following
1) 1 bedroom,kitchen, etc..
2) Indain community living there.
3) Safety- no theftes..etc
4) rent $ 900- $1100
5) near to bus, station..etc easy to commute

Also before we move in what should be looking for in the appartment- like should it must have washer dryer, or utilities should be included in the rent. how much does the elec bills run upto. which floor should be preferred?
If somebody is already staying in any particular community and feel it is better than the others, pls let me know the name.
Also any particular areas we should avoid like i have heard to avoid new brunswick..??? tips while signing the lease...?? hidden costs..??

any info, any guidance would be appreciated.. thanks.

Sam

If you're looking to live in an Indian community, you don't need a 20-mile commute to Iselin- more like 20 yards....lol.

I live in Iselin off of Green Street near Route 1, so I'm around a mile from the heart of the area affectionately called "Little India". There are a number of apartment complexes around there area, though I think the rents are slightly more than $1,000/month. I'd say $1,000 is going to be tough anywhere within 20 miles unless you want to live in a crummy area.

HA!! Even 'Crummy' areas are seeing one bedroom apartments $1,500 and over. I doubt the OP will find anything under $1,500 anywhere in North or Central Jersey.

Hopefully, the OP is making a salary of at least $250,000 since having kids & living in NJ is insanely expensive especially due to the below. Daycare, insurance ,transportation & health care are incredibly expensive.

The booming economy & the huge wall street bonus payouts are reflating the housing bubble all across the NYC metro area and NJ. Only this time rents are going along for the ride. $900 won't get you anything north of Islelin or north of Exit 8 on the NJ Turnpike.

That's not true. I live in Central Jersey and rent a 2 bed 2bath townhouse for $1300 in a quiet neighbourhood. $1000 will get a perfectly nice 1 bedroom.

Bob Kovacs is right, Iselin/Edison is the center of a very large Indian community here, you should have absolutely no problems.
Look at rent.com for apartments.
