I'm being relocated to NJ from Miami, FL. Currently looking into
Whitehouse Station-Readington TWP area. How are the schools
and quality of life in the area. I was told the schools are better
than Kendall, FL. My family wants to be convenient to shopping
and restaurants, and not sure if it will comapare to the area were
coming from. I need some advice.
In my opinion, Hunterdon County is the nicest place to live in NJ. I used to live in Bucks County, which is right across the river in PA, and traveled through Hunterdon daily. It is extremely expensive, don't expect a break in housing prices compared to Florida. Readington is a very nice township, still quite rural, but gaining some suburban flavor. Many, many people have moved to Readington from Middlesex and Union counties to get away from the hustle and bustle. Traffic is heavy but reasonable. Deer, turkey, and even bear are pretty common in Hunterdon county. As I understand, schools are top notch- no comparison to Florida. Plenty of shopping along Route 202, especially near Flemington. Overall, a great place to live if you can afford it.
I grew up in the Whitehouse Station section of Readington Twp and lived there until 2004. The schools are top notch, among the highest in the state. Hunterdon Central Regional High School has received national recognition for its programs. It is convenient to both NYC and Philly (a little over an hour to each) and has small town charm. Hunterdon County, however is probably one of the wealthiest areas in the country, not to mention the extremely high cost of living for both housing and real estate taxes. That is what made my wife and I decide to pick up and head south to Greensboro, NC. I was living in a condo paying $6000/yr for taxes. We couldn't afford a house for a half decent one cost you between $500-$600k. The taxes on that would be well over $10,000/yr. That is what my parents are currently paying. They too are moving to NC once my mom retires. If you can afford the cost of living, I say Hunterdon County is the place to be in NJ of all 21 counties. Very desireable and affluent. Convenient access to I78 and US Routes 202/206/22. Home to Merck Pharmaceutical. Best of luck to you.
You will have a whole new experience coming from FL! I have lived in all over the East Coast, even in FL, and I always came back to Hunterdon County. It's by far the best of the counties Jersey has to offer. You'll have access to many different shopping centers in Flemington and Clinton, great hiking trails, and the change of the seasons is great, too. If you need anything, I own a concierge service that focuses on Hunterdon. We have a restaurant reccomendation list that we could email you and a lot of other free services as well as an errand service, event planning, etc. It is called Easy Errands - Professional Services. If you want info about it, just go to easyerrands.com. If you need help with the transfer from FL to NJ or even travel assistance, we'll be glad to help.
Anyway, you'll love it here. There are no big cities in Hunterdon and your family will love the fact that it is very convientent to shop and have easy access to NYC and Philly, not to mention the beautiful parks in Hunterdon.
Take care and have a safe trip!
What would be a desirable town to live in hunterdon if you commuted to leonia (near the gwb) each day? We were looking at morris county...but are open to other ones as well.
What would you say the commute time leaving at 730 am would be to leonia?
Yes, my boss lives there. A very posh, rich well to do community.
