Good point..those child seats take up a lot of space....what's the age/weight requirement where they no longer have to be in a child seat??
I have no clue as to the current law, but I know that today even when you have a newborn, you must pass the child seat test before they even let you go home w/ the newborn, this was not the case when we had our son.
Back in my childhood years (less than 20 years ago, as I was born in 81), my parents shared a single car - a station wagon.
Why is it now that in order to have a family car it must be an SUV, minivan, or large sedan?
I don't get it.
They dont make the big station wagons anymore........if you have 3 or more kids a regular vehichle wont be big enough. Yeard ago you could fit 3 in the front if you wanted not anymore.......
Good point...smaller families..larger cars??? makes no sense : )
I know alot of people that have 3 or more kids they need to have a van or a larger suv, they dont make station wagons anymore so what else is there? I know my brother has 7 kids he drove a huge van he got mad cause we called it the Bible bus tee hee....

my neighbors also had one of those a few years ago - we called it the "church bus", I like bible bus better! lol
Did your Mom work or was she stay at home?
Many families today have both parents working and somebody having to shuttle these kids to after school sports with equipment....a mini cooper is not a car for a family of four
She worked, my brother and I were shuttled around to games, and no, everything was not in walking distance - and what was, wasn't exactly a pleasure walk (Elizabeth).
Last I checked, a mini cooper had seating for four....

This wasn't all that big a station wagon - hell, before that it was a mid'70's chevy nova. Not exactly big family seating by today's standards.
Also, most people do *not* have 3 or more kids. Giant SUV's for one child, anything less isn't a "family car" anymore. Its silly.
I have a smaller suv with one son......when we go away its packed let me tell you ....the back isnt really alot of room if you ask me. I dont think I could ever drive a regular car again.
That Smart car is scary..saw one on 46 the other day
May do well over in Europe as most drive small cars, scooters but heck that thing would scare the hell out of me driving on any interstate
Can you believe I have a friend in Philly with one on order. I would be afraid it it because of all the big cars here.
In Rome I was told there on Vacation that the smart is the most popular car because its easy to park.
Today, here in Nashville they ok'ed Electric Cars, but these only go 35mph, so I wonder where they can drive them. The Speed Limit on our interstates is 70mph.

I like the smart car, I would get one but I love the mini so you can see why!
