Hi everyone,
I have been looking around for a few months for a place to move to in the states, this forum has been really helpful since i don't know alot about the states.
I am american but grew up in Portugal since I was a baby and haven't visited often or for long. New jersey is looking like a good place to start.
I just inished a degree in psychology, which i imagine will be equivalent to a BC in the states, and would like to move to a place not far from a college in case I get a chance to continue school there, and also more importantly, where i might be able to find a job in my area, (mental health, or just more general job in helping people where i could use my skills)
I'd like to live somewhere in between the country and city life. being close to the ocean is really important.
Would it be realistic to find (and afford) all this in new jersey ?
Any suggestions of better suited places?
more hints:
I'm really tired of city life; I want a house where i can have a dog and trees, would be nice to be surrounded by nice people with open minds and hearts. not too materialistic and conservative.
I've thought of joining an ecovillage. But not sure it's for me. I get winter blues pretty bad, so I don't want to move somewhere too up north. And i'm pretty sure i can't live away from large quantities of water, having grown in an island. I went for months away from the ocean and was going nuts. not sure i would ever adapt. not sure a big lake would help either.
Thank you for taking the time!
Monmouth County has several mental health agencies you could work at, and is right on the ocean. The downside is that the payscale for a bachelors-level position is rather low, and Monmouth county is expensive. You would probably need to share an apartment at first with someone. There are plenty of schools within an hour's drive where you could further your studies.
Also, try Somerset County. Close to Rutgers University. Go to craigslist.com. Also, many places within a very short drive for someone with your background to work. Good luck!
Mental health field? Look around Hammonton, Ancora hospital is right there, you're near the shore, not to far from Philadelphia and all the colleges there, plus you have Rowan and Rutgers Camden campus.
My father moved to LA to study medicine, I think Los Angeles
is a good place to for you to move and to study what you really
like.
