I had no problem at all with his comments. I think he hit his target audience spot on. I went to HS in Belmar and it is the greatest little town for up to 9 months of the year.

My opinion is that the Mayor should not have labeled the people who are disrespecting his town as coming from one area. It is not only people from Staten Island raising hell in Belmar. Everyone causing havoc should be treated equally, regardless of where they came from. The whole guido/bimbo thing seems to be more widespread now than years ago. Besides, the real guidos originated in Brooklyn, not SI.

Default Mayor Pringle issues apology

Well, the Mayor has offered his apology for the comments in last weeks newsletter (for those who may have felt offended):

I live in Spring lake and support Belmar's Mayor and his comments 100%. When you guys come down to the beach you are very disrespectful to the town, it's people, and basic laws. I don't see how park partially blocking someones drive way seems like a good idea? Or just tossing you garbage out the window? Or ignoring traffic laws. Really if you people came down and didn't think you owned the place maybe we would be nicer and actually enjoy your company. Please if you have any problems with the comments of the people in the area and their attitude towars torists, benny's and guidos please feel free to never come back.

As a Monmouth University graduate who bore witness to the decline of Belmar, I have this so say about Mayor Pringle's comments:

GOOD FOR YOU.

It's about time that a politician says something like this, no matter how "incorrect" may seem.

If Pringle's tactics end up making Belmar the equivalent of Ocean City North with a Liquor License, then I give him a big thumbs up.

Good for Mayor Pringle. He's right-on. I'm sorry to hear that he apologized for it. People need to hear the truth, even if it makes them angry (maybe if they're smart, they'll reflect on WHY).

Was Pringle embarrassed yesterday, taken off guard or did he just cave?

A little bit of both, funny thing is the people of Belmar and Lake Como think he's right it the business owners who are scared.Again I think he was not only right but right on target.
