My husband and I are looking to buy a 2-3 bedroom condo in a luxury building soon. We would ideally prefer a building with a waterfront view of Manhattan.

We cannot decide between Edgewater, Fort Lee, Hoboken or Jersey City. We are looking for an area that:

1) easy commute into the city
2) good for families, good school system

Can anyone help post pros/cons or just more information on buying a condo in any of these places?

Thanks in advance!

Good school immediately rule out Jersey City and Hoboken.

Fort Lee is a very nice town, there tend to be more co-ops than condos however.

Default Weehawken

There's a lot of new condo construction in Weehawken just up the road from Hoboken. You don't have PATH but there's frequent, fast bus service to NYC as well as ferry. Views are unbelievable. It's a bit less pricey than Hoboken and maybe you can use the savings for private school. The curriculum director of the public schools was just exposed in the NY Post for faking his Ph.D. Sigh...

We may move there too. It's between that and JC....

If you don't know Hoboken, I'd recommend being careful about buying in any of the new condo construction on the far west side of town. They're pretty far from the PATH and the lively part of town, esp. if you'll be coming at night. (Although if it's around 1st St, that shouldn't be a problem.) Some of them seem way overpriced for the location. There are some beautiful apartments in the upper Grand area - Adams, Grand and Clinton above 10th St. Some are right by Columbus Park which has a kid's playground. Shoprite is very handy too.

Why not Guttenburg, NJ? Galaxy towers (condo, apartment) are very nice and has excellent Manhattan view.

Hoboken and Edgewater are excellent!
