I feel like I'm going to have to keep tally of all the unemployed folks I know lately!

About 2 wks ago it was a friend who was a tech for Time/Warner cable who was "downsized." Then there was my friend in IT from UPS who got a pink slip. (Before that we also had 2 friends from UBS that took "voluntary buyouts." And another friend from Star Ledger says that 400 letters went out asking 250 people to "voluntarily" retire or they are laying off. And 2 more friends at ADP that were let go - one after 27 yrs of service.....)

Now today I found out a former colleague who left my co about 18 mos ago to work at Starbucks Corporate got the ax.

And a friend who is pretty high up at Cisco Systems also got "let go today."

HOW MANY MORE PEOPLE CAN WE AFFORD TO HAVE ON UNEMPLOYMENT?

THis is getting really, really bad....

I filed for unemployment on Monday so add me to this list.

I had to turn in my company laptop and while at Best Buy in Secaucus, the sales rep told me i was about the 20th person since Friday night to come in to find a replacement for a company computer due to losing a job.

Sorry to hear that

Man, no one can claim it's a "mental recession" anymore can they?

Hell no, it's bad. I have about a years worth of salary saved up but I am hiring a professional resume writer to do my resume so I have somewhat of a chance in this market.

That stinks Hoboken guy! I'm sorry to hear that. What is it that you do? Maybe someone in here may have leads for you.

nj.com has a great classified section for jobs.

If you know someone who is being threatened with layoffs at a children's clothing store a month before school starts, they're doing something wrong.

I was a business development analyst, and wanting to get into more true marketing (analysis, branding, positioning, etc...). Biting the bullet and hiring a professional resume writer and interview coach. In this market, I will spend what it takes to make me stand out from the rest of the people trying to find a job.
