Here I am with another wild life (is it safe) question.
We just moved to Schooleys mt, have wild land in our backyard. It backs up to the park. My husband thought it would be a great idea for him (I would never do it!) and the kids (ages 7 & 8) to pitch a tent in the backyard and sleep there. Is this a stupid thing to do considering the coyotes I hear at night and bear sightings (I called up the township office)?
I just don't like for them to do something without getting any knowledge of what they are dealing with. Please forgive my ignorance this is all new to me.
(coyotes, bears,dear)
hummm..I guess as long as you don't let them bring or eat food in the tent they should be fine..I wouldn't do it if it was me. We also have Mt. Lions in this area now...and bobcats from what others have told me.
It will be just as safe, if not safer than a campsite- just make sure they treat it like an honest to goodness campsite. No food, no scraps, no nothing around the sleeping area.
My BF grew up in Long Valley many years ago before the roads were paved. He camped out in the back yard all the time. No worries, just don't leave food out to attract them. Have fun.
You're right I do¡ My husband thinks so too!
Thanks for everyone's input. I'm still very weary though.... Having all this wildlife in my own backyard is a little unsettling for this city girl.
