I haven't heard much information about homocides in the city of newark this year...I have checked the newark police crime stats for this year on the website and it shows that killings are down 17 percent from last year (yet again 2008 hasn't ended) Does anybody know how this compares to last year in August?

Another question I have is where are these killings and crime occuring?
Near south orange/maplewood in the west wards
near the north side around bellville
south side around hillside?? just wondering

Newark has averaged around 100 homicides a year for quite some time now. This year they are down due to more uniforms on the street. BUT and a big BUT a city of almost identical size and it will surpass Newark in the next census is Jersey City. We average around 25 murders a year. Both cities have bad numbers but we average 75 less and we are only a couple of miles apart. Hope this helps a little.
