Olympic Karate School Rutherford NJ
Does anyone have any experience w/ this school in Rutherford NJ? I've heard it is the best of the local schools and I want to enroll my kids in September.
If you can recommend any schools in the Wood-Ridge/Rutherford area... we're brand new and any experience is appreciated!
I spoke to DH who used to own a business in Rutherford, not far from Olympic. He said that the owners are great people and that they were known to be the best in town. There is another center just a few doors away (Happy Family or something like that) and that owner is known to be a little koo-koo.... most parents that he knew sent their kids to Olympic and they were very happy there.
I also heard about Olympic and visited the school with my children. I was not satisfied with their program. The children were not learning practical skills, the classes were too short, and the students seemed bored and not very skilled. I checked out several other schools in the area as well. The best program I found was Dragon Spirit Martial Arts in Lyndhurst. The kids there were learning real self-defense skills, worked out really hard, (Olympic essentialy had no substantive fitness component to their program) and the level of professionalism far outweighed any of their competitors. The price was also very fair. My chidlren have been attending for 4 months now and my husband and I are very satisfied with their program. We have already noticed great changes in our children, as our daughter has lost about 15 pounds. They can't wait to get to class and fitness and martial arts have become an important part of their life. I would highly recommend this school to anyone.
Olympic Karate is simply not a good program. The facility is not equipped for real martial arts training. The instructors are too clownish and the price is too high for the actual training received. There are better programs at most of the other schools in the area. If I am going to invest my time and money I want to attend a school where my children are learning to defend themselves for real. Olympic is just what it says in the name, a sport (at best) not a real martial art. Two different sets of parents told me that they didn't feel their children could defend themselves at all in a real fight after attending Olympic for nearly two years. I would not send my kids there. Can you tell me more or less what the tuition was in both Olympic and in Dragon? I know someone who may be looking there too. They did mention that they did not like that Olympic was not up front with their prices.
I don't remember the exact price at Olympic but it was considerably more than what I am paying at Dragon Spirit. Moreover, my kids attend class three times a week at their school versus twice, the classes are one full hour (much longer than Olympic) and the quality of instruction is way superior. I also received a discount at Dragon Spirit because I have more than one child. I would highly recommend you to go to Dragon Spirit and compare the difference.
