I just ate at rutts hutt maybe 1 month ago, its sucked. The place was like eating in a bathroom, they had no condiments like kraut or great onions. This place really went way down hill. I called out and said I wanted something off the menu, called a grand slam and they just looked at me like Im nuts ! Someone must have bought this place and has a new owner it really was terrible!!!
I live in Clifton, and get to Rutt's Hut pretty much any time one of my friends admits they've never eaten there. I love the Hot Grill too, and end up there more often (it's way closer to my house).
My dad, who grew up in Kearny, was up visiting recently and I took him to Rutt's for a couple of dogs. He said the place hasn't changed a bit in 40 years.
I went to Rutt's Hut when I lived in Clifton and my wife nearly vomited from the smell and unsanitary conditions. They should just put urinals in the waiting area. Dog wasn't bad but wasn't as good as everyone raves about either. A place you say "yeah, I've been there" but that's about it.
Go to Hot Grill. Nicer place, they put chili on the dogs and it's fun listening to the Hot Grill-ese being spoken "ONE ALL THE WAY, ONE! FRENCHY!"
