Any thoughts on safety and liveability of this area? My husband and I found a great house and the neighborhood is pretty. Is it a good place for middle-aged commuters to NYC? Thanks for any guidance.

I like the Island. It's very quiet, mostly residential, especially around Magnolia Avenue. Easy walk to Journal Square PATH. If you like long walks, you can walk downtown via Newark Avenue to some of the restaurants down there, or make it a short drive. In terms of safety, it is Jersey City (not Hoboken), but I get a much quieter/safer vibe out of the Island than the other areas surrounding Journal Square.
