However, the income gap between south, central and northern NJ is clearly narrowing. Burlington County saw a huge 8% increase from 2006. Gloucester County saw a huge increase as well. Hunterdon and Somerset still rank among the nation's highest. I also included PA burbs for those interested. I included Mercer as part of South because most of it is considered part of the Delaware Valley. Not every county is listed. Enjoy!

The new data are from 2007:

South

Burlington $74,000 +8% increase from 2006
Gloucester $71,000, huge increase from 2006
Mercer $70,000
Camden $60,000 (City of Camden drags down average)
Cape May $52,000

Central

Hunterdon $100,000 (one of highest in nation)
Somerset $97,000 (one of highest in nation)
Monmouth $78,000
Middlesex $75,000
Ocean $56,000

North

Morris $94,000 (one of highest in nation)
Bergen $80,000 (on the decline)
Sussex $78,000
Passaic $55,000
Essex $54,000
Hudson $52,000

PA – Philly burbs + Lehigh

Chester $83,000
Montgomery $74,000
Bucks $71,000
Delaware $60,000
Lancaster $52,000
Lehigh $52,000
Philadelphia $35,000

Not too shabby.. I think the increase in some counties and PA counties is due to the transplanting - downsizing for those moving out of the wealthier counties and or other States?

The report shows a growing income gap in NJ from the wealthy to the poor. It think the data show a general migration south and west. Bergen has clearly seen out-migration.

All the Bergen People are heading my way... seems to be my pool of home buyers. makes sence though... sell your 1/2 million dollar cap cod on 0.10 acres in Bergen and buy a mcmansion out west on 4 acres for the same price.

I am surprised Bergen is so far behind Morris, Hunterdon and Somerset. Sussex at $78k, WOW. Wonder if Essex data can be partitioned for 'West Essex' and if the Hudson data can be partitioned for Hoboken and Jersey City. What county is Edgewater (Hudson or Bergen)?
