Im helping out a friend and wanted to know if a person works in nassau county can they live in Jersey & commute everyday? they would be starting work@3pm and hubby at 8am. They are thinking of getting a townhouse.
I think driving would be closer to 2 hours on a good day from most kid-friendly suburbs in NJ - if you're driving during rush hour it'll probably be worse.
Taking the train is probably more like 1.5 hours if they work near the station.
Rosyln is right on the Queens/Nassau line. I have friends on the Upper West Side who commute by car right on the border as well but he's a doctor so he does not go with rush hour. If you live by the GWB it should be doable in an hour depending on time of day. If doing during rush hour.. forgetaboutit! It can take up to 2 hours. But off hours you should be good to go.. just get ez-pass and learn all the alternate routes fast!
I live on Long Island now - we had looked into options for my husband to continue to coommute to long island once we move to NJ. If you go during off rush hour times it's doable - but the long island expressway is pretty much bad any time of the day...
The grand central can be almost as bad - especially going past laguardia and shea. I've had commutes home from the city that have taken me almost 3 hours (going to huntington). That being said - if you are in central NJ and live near one of the staten island bridges, you might be able to take the southern route - but then you'd be dealing with the belt parkway, which is my personal nightmare.
true but if you look at the original post the one person will lstart work at 3pm. that would not be bad! the one starting work at 8am in roslyn will have more of a challengne unless they live NJ at 6am every day!
