Anybody know how trafficky the commute would be from Montclair to Morristown on weekdays? Just got a new job in Morristown, and want to know if it would be too trafficky to have to commute there from Montclair (or if I should live somewhere else as I move out of NYC). Mapquest says I'd take 280W to 287S. Thoughts on traffic situation would be helpful as I try to figure out where in NJ I should live. I want to live in a fun non-NYC town somewhat close to the city.

Where 280-W connects with 287 is a guaranteed bottleneck. That exit lane backs up every day during rush hour.

Hi Mead. Thank you for your response. Can you give me a sense of how long that bottleneck would cost you time-wise? 5 minutes or 20 minutes? Thanks again!

Why don't you do a trial run during commuter hours? I am thinking most of the traffic is running against you. Certainly more are going East in the AM and West in the PM

Thanks for your response. I work and live in NYC right now, so it's hard to get out to do a trial run. That's why I'm seeing if anyone can offer perspective. Thanks so much for your comment on traffic running the other way. C

I used to do that commute to Florham Park, which is right next to Morristown. Traffic was so bad in the mornings, I took local roads, basically taking 280 to East Hanover through to Florham Park. Not sure what was worse; 280west to 287 south traffic jam, or the local road speed trap every 1/2 mile commute. My commute inthe mornings was about 40 minutes and only 30 muntes coming home. I gave that up for an easier commute (and more money) to NYC.
