People use their pathology for all sorts of reasons. As far as sociopaths go, they are found in many professions. They are attracted to professions such as law enforcement and surgery.

Let's call it a gray area then. Having not only read about, but also spending hours on end with psychotics on the ward, Dexter is like no psychotic I have seen. The "dark passenger" was just a name he gave to the darkness that came over him when his obsession became too great to avoid acting on. It was not a delusion or hallucination.
