Hi,

I am planning to move to Village Pointe in Edison. From there I will need to commute to downtown NYC.

So if any one has an experience of commute from there please share. Hows the parking at Metuchen station, any shuttle services if so any idea about its frequency.

This information will greatly help me.

I have recently moved into Village Pointe which takes about 20 minutes to Metropark and 10 for Metuchen station. I'm myself right now getting dropped off at the Metuchen station since parking is only found at Metropark (there is a at least 6 year waiting list to get parking permit for Metuchen!!) which also gets much more traffic compared to Metuchen. Door to door to Times Square where I work, it takes approx 1 hour and 10 minutes each way including walking the 10 blocks from Penn station in NY. If I drive to Metropark, the mornings will be not too bad but there is huge traffic build up in the evenings which would probabily take an extra 20 minutes or so in commuting time.

Another thing you might like to know if you have multiple cars, be prepared for very scarce parking spots in the complex other than your garage. Also there are cockroach problems in some of the buildings including mine which is on Inverness dr.

Best of luck!

Thanks for your response. Just wondering about the parking situation at Metuchen and any shuttle services you are aware of ?

There is no shuttle service from Village Pointe to Metuchen, and there are some pay parking spots I believe that get filled very early in the morning but I never tried it. One idea I may try myself is to find a street walkable from the station where parking is allowed.

I tried that in the late 1980s and found myself walking about 5 miles to get to the Metuchen station. The streets closer than that did not allow all-day parking.

What I ended up doing was driving up Woodland Ave. to the Netherwood station on the Raritan Valley line. Parking was plentiful and changing trains in Newark was quick and easy.

I moved out of the area in 1988 so things may have changed - but from what I read on this site, they haven't changed much!
