One of the houses we may look at has an inground pool.
Does anyone here on the board have one? If so, what is your annual cost (roughly) to maintain it? I know there's probably a lot of time involved, just trying to get an idea of the $$$.

Thanks.
It's really not that bad! I pay a company to open and close it each year and all I do is add "shcok" once a week.. some tablets to the chlorinator every other week... I only had to vacuum twice this year. Total cost..including all chemicals and compay to open/close... $1500 tops! If you learn how to open and close it yourself, knock $500-$600 off of that price.
Not to much at all. I just had the pool closed. All they do for me is put the cover on and blow out all the water from the lines and cap them. Cost 159 bucks. I open it myself with the help of one of my sons for 10 minutes. All you have to do is unplug the lines and put some screws back into place. As far as chemicals are I buy a 70lb bucket of 3inch chlorine tabs for about 100 bucks. Add to that a couple of bags of shock a week for another 100 and without any forseen problems for me it's about 350. I vacuum once every 2 weeks and skim the top every couple of days for 5 minutes. Good luck.

Not much if the pool and everything is in good to excellent shape...if not....fugettaboutit. i lived through this nightmare.
Been there and done that. I had a new one installed. To the OP make sure you have it inspected. I fumbled on that one and it cost somewheres in the range of 30K for a new one to becompleted.
I don't have an inground, so I'm not sure if it is particular to an above ground, but besides the summer air conditioning, my electric goes up about an additional $50 per month. 1/2 may - 1/2 of sept. adds up to 4 months or an additional $200. Also don't know about your filtration systems but there's a little extra time and cost involved. Not much and even with the cost I think it's well worth it.

159 for a closing is really good. Mind if I ask what company you use?
I have a fiberglass inground, cost about $30 in chlorine and an additional 10-15 in other chemicals. We close and open it ourselves and that is also a minimal cost once you have a decent cover.
