yes, steve maybe the child is on ssi for disabitly ? there is something she is not telling you. if a child is getting iss its for only that they have a disabilty or there parent is on disabilty and the parents are divorced so that is a child support payment. or a child also gets it if one parent is no longer with us.
so there is something that she is not telling you. so these are the reasons i know of that children get ssi .
i don't work for them so i don't know all of it but you could call the 1 800 # to find out more info

well they ask her regularly to show what she is spending the money on, she does not need the money so she dumps it into a college tuition fund. I have no idea why a blind parent;s kid 13 would get money either. The kid is just a brat not disabled.

First of all.....HUGE difference between SSI ( supplemental security income) and disablility..if she is receiving Social Security Disability she had to of worked at some point in her life and YES her child is entitled to dependent's benefit, that's just the way it is, she is NOT pulling a scam...see link from SS web site:

SSI...big difference

yes she worked until she went blind, I just did not think the kid would get money. Thanks, what do you think of that idea ? Lets say the mother is married and their income is over 100,000 a year! The kid is getting money?? Do you agree with that?

No I don't. It should be for truly needy dependents. It will stop when he graduates High school, at one time kids could receive this dependent check until they were 23 if a full time student, the gov finally put a stop to that

I think she is entitled because she paid into it prior to loosing her sight. They are sending money to her daughter because she is unable to provide for her. There are millionaires out there who are receiving SSI and disability payms because they paid into it and are entitled. I guess her husband's income is not a factor? Is the husband your neices father?

yes he is! He is a good guy , stayed thru out all her problems. I am not judging her by any means she is my sister. The kid, lets just say I think they could have done a better job parenting, but I am at aloss. I can be too judgemental and I wish I was alittle more compassionate. I am learning those qualities. I have mixed feeling about the kid getting benefits. Just wondering everyones opinion.
