I was really happy to see the markets go up today - I am holding off ony any sort of relief or celebration yet... but I'll take what I can get.

This is great news! Yesterday, I went to see open house at Moderator cut: shades of ehs1 , and so many buyers looking at them, so, may be the the depression is coming to the end?

Noone knows.

There was no recession after the 1987 crash which was of similar size (2700 to 1700 or 38%; it simply happened faster in 1987.

It will vary by location:
It almost already is a depression for Michigan. 8.9% unemployment. The 1992 recession was relatively mild in Michigan.
South Dakota is 3.3% unemployment.

The person who is right merely was the one who randomly guessed right tho they will be hailed as a guru.

Sure the banks will be bailed out. But the job cuts are starting to pile in and the retail numbers will be HORRIBLE this season which will add another level of bad news. If we get through that hopefully the rebound will happen early next year....

Folks this was one day up after 8 straight down. Our problems didn't turn around after 8 hours of an up day on the stock market.

Dow was up over 14k this time last year. Keep perspective people. 900 bump is nice but really just a drop in the bucket.

It is DOWN 65 points as im typing this. Anyone who thinks yesterdays gain is going to fix everything, think again. The 800B bailout will only 'temporary' relax the market. Key word here is temporary. Once everyone realizes they just made it worse, the dow will tank even more. Bailout does not add jobs, does not reduce foreclosures. Basically it is a joke of a plan that will only do more harm.

Your 401ks will shrink alot more..
