Hi all. I am a NJ native who is now in GA. Our neighborhood hosts a holiday dinner every year, and this year the theme is "Your Hometown". Because so many of us are transplants, we are supposed to bring a dish that exemplifies
where we came from. It is a dinner party, so Taylor ham and egg on a hard roll won't work! And, it's too late for Jersey corn or tomatoes, so I am stuck.
Any suggestions? I do not have access to decent rolls, pizza or bagels here.
PS: This is the nicest forum in citydata.com. I am amazed how pleasant everyone is towards each other. Makes me miss NJ!
Bring some Canoli's!
Bring some Taylor Ham - can you order it and have it shipped
Bring some Hogies or Subs depending if your North or South Jersey
Bring something or anything Italian!
Bring ME!
You know the drill down here. As long as you don't bring Pork Bar b Que they will think it is from someplace else.
Oh God, stop it!!!!
I'm going to stop reading this thread. I'm getting depressed and homesick
Going to have my Bar-b-que now and a fried twinkie for dessert.
Chicken Parmesan and garlic bread! Look, I'll even tell you how to make it--pound your chicken breasts until they're thin, dip in beaten egg, then in italian seasoned breadcrumbs. Fry in olive oil until golden. Don't worry if they're done.
Make a tomato sauce out of a can or two of peeled plum tomatos, garlic, olive oil.
Get a glass baking pan, put a little sauce in the bottom, lay your chicken pieces over that, put slices of mozzerella (sic) on top, pour a bunch of sauce over that. Bake in a 375 over until chicken is cooked and cheese melted (30 mins or so).
Garlic bread--spread butter and chopped garlic on italian bread, sprinkle some salt, wrap in foil and bake in the oven with the chicken parm.
And you're right about the NJ group being nice--I also post in the Mass. and Boston group and it is nowhere near as warm, relaxed and funny. Yes, I miss NJ too....
Yeah, read some of our posts on politics and diversity! LOL But even when we quarrel, we do come around and are nice again. THAT is what it's like in Jersey I guess!
