Hello, Just wondering if you can give me any advice to what areas/towns are nicer than other (crime, safety). Elementary Schools have to be great. I am looking at the northern part of the state. However don't want to be to far from Hammonton. I am in the beginning phases of moving so I am uncertain to what expect. I have heard the taxes can be killer. Thanks for your responses.
Two things - there are 566 municipalities in NJ. You'll have to be more specific about what you're looking for.
Also - Hammonton is in deep South Jersey halfway between AC and Philly. If you're looking in North Jersey the closest you'll get to Hammonton is a 2 hour drive.
I am clueless when it comes to moving. I will be taking a trip over there during the weekend; I haven't been in the central or northern parts of New Jersey therefore uncertain to what expect. I want to keep my options open but don't want to spend hours in the car commuting back and forth to work. There are so many factors to consider: great elementary school, ample size yard, no long commutes.. My prices range is no more than 275,000. THanks.

Hi there!
Hopefully this information will help somewhat.
The distance between Hammonton and East Rutherford is a bit less than 100 miles. Your trip between the two locales would be on the NJ Turnpike and Route 206. Route 206 includes traffic lights and going through small towns whereas the Turnpike is, well, the Turnpike.
To give you a sense of what central New Jersey is like (where I am in Dayton), it is a mix among rural (think Westminster, MD), suburban (Reisterstown and Owings Mills) and urban (Frederick and Hagerstown). As you head further north and get closer to New York City, you will find the type of mixture to skew more toward suburban and urban.
While I'm not a realtor and don't claim to be one, I think the factors you are thinking about (limited commuting time, good schools, ample sized yard, and a price range of $275K) are going to wind up being mutually exclusive. $275K is a definite limiting factor relative to the others. However, you may want to start your search around the Hightstown, Jamesburg, Spotswood, Helmetta areas. These all have relative easy access to the Turnpike which will get you up to East Rutherford in about an hour and a half.
If you are looking to reduce the commuting time to East Rutherford, you could look further north, but your options for an ample yard are definitely going to diminish.
Best wishes for success in your search!
