Hi,
I'm wondering if anyone knows what magazines and/or higher end fashion companies there are to work for in New Jersey (more in the northern areas closer to the city). If I were to leave the city and didn't want to commute in but work in NJ instead I'd love to know where there was opportunity to work. I heard Gucci may have offices in NJ as well as Bauer publishing, just wondering who else. Also heard perhaps Englewood Cliffs had a lot of opportunities as well as maybe Seacaucas? Thoughts? Thank you!!!

There are many with at least some offices in Northern Jersey - Polo, Gucci, Coach, DKNY, Michael Kohrs - to name a few. Magazines will be more in the city. But I will warn you ALL are not doing much hiring these days.

A friend who is in the industry worked for Tommy H for a long time before they moved (down to the Princeton area) and had a HARD HARD time finding a job. I do see that Polo (Lyndhurst, NJ) is still doing a bit of hiring. Reason, they bought all their licensing back from companies that they had sold to and they are bringing everything back in house. So you could try there.

Thank you EEEPNJ, very helpful! I know it is tough everywhere right now and also maybe harder in NJ period than in NYC which is why I'm a bit worried if we leave the city in a year or two if I will be able to continue to work in this field. Starting to think and plan ahead as much as possible, thanks for all the advice, I really appreciate it

Liz has been laying off left and right. I know many inside and they are not happy. I know that's the trend.

Pixisprite, are you in NYC now?

Yeah, I'm in NYC now but when/ if I move to NJ I don't want to be a commuter, I'd rather stay and work in NJ and be more close to home. When we have kids in the future, I want to be able to be a car drive away, you know? Not a subway, a train, and then a car drive away....

Look into Polo.
They have offices in NYC and in Lyndhurst and run company only shuttles between.

I'm in publishing and had the exact same dilemma you are having. I asked my company to work from home a couple of days a week to cut the commute down. There is NJ Monthly magazine and also Northstar Travel Media Secaucus. Bauer Publishing is in Englewood Cliffs I think but I can't imagine they are hiring.

Van Heusen is in Bridgewater. Also, depending on what you do there may be other options. There are companies in NJ who are independent textile testing labs. SGS is one of them.
