Business week released their best places to raise kids. Every state had one city/town as "best" with two runners-up. This is the one for NJ:
The Best Places to Raise Your Kids 2009: New Jersey - BusinessWeek

I don't agree with the ones they picked for Oklahoma, and I wonder what everyone thinks of the ones they picked for NJ.

Don't agree. I lived in Edison for a couple years and it isn't any better than many towns in NJ to raise kids. There are lots of towns with better schools, low crime and a true family feel. I'd put towns like Moorestown, NJ at the top of the list but there are many other towns that would qualify including Princeton, Haddonfield, Millburn et al.

The top one they picked for Oklahoma is near an Army base, and you all know what that means. The other one is near an Air force base, and is a town we ruled out in our search when we moved here for various reasons. I don't think the ones they picked for NJ were top either, but I thought I'd hear what you all had to say.

I knew right away after opening this up what the town in NM was going to be. The criteria here seems to be the twin gods of safety and education, located in a cookie cutter-like post WWII Levittown era suburb.

I totally disagree as well. There are dozens of NJ towns I can think of that would be better to raise kids in than Edison. It is a fine place to raise a family, but by no means is it the best NJ has to offer.

I still say that the "winners" in these types of articles are the towns that pay the magazines the most- the selections never make any sense. The towns listed for GA are absurd at best- one is an Air Force base town, another is a college town, and the last is a so-so suburb (Marietta) that NJKate will gladly attest to as not being an ideal candidate.

Any place that produced Newt Gingrich (Marietta) I have to say is pretty marginal...........

Well, I'm sure they're not proud of that fact either- I don't recall seeing a sign that says "Welcome to Marietta- Boyhood Home of Newt Gingrich"......lol.

These studies are always hilarious. I personally would not consider Edison, Union, or Clifton nice towns. To raise a family??? None of those towns have good public schools

I always find these "lists" to be amusing. I don't agree by far. Was economics a factor in this article? Even so, I can think of better in NJ. Clifton has some nicer sections and some very bad sections now. I'm not familiar w/ Union. While Edison is not bad, it's not spectacular either.
