We're considering living in Hoboken, a couple with a 2-year-old.
We've seen the Archstone, which doesn't have a kids playroom but looked otherwise fine. We also looked at 333 River and got the feeling that it is not well maintained (though it could be just the 2 apartments we got to see?).
We'd be happy to hear comments from people who live or lived in those apartment buildings as well as others in the same price range.

Also - we're heard about a complex called the Shipyard. What are the good buildings there? How do we commute from there to mid-manhattan (seems that the ferry is much more expensive than PATH + requires a bus to get to midtown).

333 River and Shipyard are owned by Applied management. I live in the Shipyard and like it very much. It is quieter up here than at 333 River.

Yes the ferry is more expensive than the Path but is faster to most parts of midtown. The PATH ends at 33rd street, with the ferry you can take the shuttle buses as far north as 57th street and as far south as the World financial center.

There are a ton of kids in this complex as well.

I think it is the best complex in Hoboken.

Thanks. We're working around 28th st so PATH is actually a good option for us. But if the Shipyard quieter and well maintained then its certainly a plus. Does the complex operate a frequent shuttle to PATH station? How about taking the bus to 33rd st instead of ferry - is that much slower?

Also - what are the better buildings of the complex? I saw a few names - Constitution North, Independence, Vanguard, Sovereign - are there significant quality / amenities differences? Any of them more family-friendly?

No there isn't a shuttle to the PATH but the 126 bus runs down Washington to the Path.

The bus goes to 42nd street, The Port Authority, no bus goes to 33rd street.

The Sovereign is the newest building (there is a new building going up and looks to be nearing completion). The Sovereign isn't as kid friendly as the other buildings, they have restrictions on kids use of the pool.

the Vangurad and Constituiton don't have a pool or a door man, but you can use the pool at the Sovereign or Independence.

The pool is an extra fee for everyone.

The Independence is probably the most family friendly. I think they are all about the same as far as quality goes.
