Hey, I'm thinking about staying in East Orange at the Ramada for New Years and taking the train from Brick Street station into NYC. I know East Orange does not have the best reputation, how is the area around the hotel & train station? I was told that area is actually fairly nice. Would a 5 min walk from the train to the hotel at 1 AM be out of the question? Thanks for any help!

I can't answer that question but just check the train schedule and make sure that there is going to be one running at that hour. I'm pretty sure the mid-town direct line from Penn NY has their last train out before midnight.

The last train leaves Penn @ 12:35, but every year on New Years NJ Transit has added extra trains that run at about 1:30, 2:30, and 3:30. The hotel is .3 miles from the station, if anyone is familiar with the area, any information would be greatly appreciated.

yeah it aint bad at day..but i would feel very uncomfortable at night. You should be alright though. The areas near the station are light, avoid any side streets. Since it is new years, crime is down when it is cold. you will be fine!
