Hi,

I have a job offer in Hamilton, NJ. I am a single female and wondering where I can look to find an apt. Craig'slist does not have anything in that area. Also, I have a dog and a cat. I'm relocating from NY State and I'm not sure what the avg price-range is for a q bedroom apt there. Also, although I may choose to live in Hamiton, I would be interested to knwo if there is a town that is within 30-45 minutes to drive to Hamiton at rush-hour from that is going closer towards NYC on the train line. I am trying to keep rent down, I am not in the financial position to rent a home or luxery apt.

Thanks for any help!

When are you planning to move, what size apt are you interested in, how is your credit, and how much are you willing to spend for rent excluding utilities? These are some basic questions I ask rentors in order to search for properties for them. Remember that landlords require a month's security in addition to the first month's rent in advance. Some may ask for more security because of the pets.

Default Rent in Hamilont, surrounding areas

Hi,

We are still negotiating on salary and the Thanksgiving Holiday sort of interfered. But, I would say under 1000 if at all possible . Excellent credit.
I'm not 100% about using an agent, only because of the added cost.
Would be moving around Jan 1 but perhaps a little bit before.

Thank you for replying

Default P.S.-Rental size

A one-bedroom or large studio apt
I see New Brunswick is 33 mins (according to mapquest) from Hamilton, is that realistic during rush hour?

I learned from my real estate agent that not all areas of NJ have it so the renter pays the fee - I do now know if Hamilton is one of the areas where the landlord pays or not..

Anne, Here are some pet friendly apartments I found in Hamilton-

Parts of Hamilton border Trenton and that be iffy, so be aware of that.

You might also want to check out Plainsboro, NJ, there are several apartment complexes there and it is a quick 20 minute drive into Hamilton during rush hours.

Good luck with your search!

30 minutes from New Brunswick would work if you were traveling during non-peak times. But normal commuting hours on Monday-Friday would probably require an hour door to door.

Your $1000 budget for a small apt. should work in Hamilton and surrounding area (Cranbury, East Windsor, Plainsboro, etc). As you noted, the key is to find one that accepts pets - but that is not impossible.

Also keep in mind that many landlords pay the Realtor's fee so it may not be something you have to include in your budget.
