NorthJersey.com: Rail station is home for more and more of us (http://www.northjersey.com/news/transportation/Rail_station_is_home_for_more_and_more_of_us.html - broken link)
Homelessness will always be with us because theres no "profit" in a cure. Trillions in government and private dollars to be spent for bombs, medical research etc because theres a profit for the investment......sorry to say that other than knowing you individually did something good theres no corporate profit in the homeless so don't look to the government or private industry for help.
it must be awkward to ride the trains and see homeless. I worked at a homeless shelter in Hackensack. This was not your down on luck type who lost a job and had medical bills. This was major druggies and alcoholics who every dime they got wanted and begged me for rides so they could cop their drugs or booze. I found it repulsive and depressing. If someone was true homeless and needed a break I would let them live with me, however the drugs and booze no way!!!
"These folks were upscale suburban," he explained. "They're the new faces of homelessness — a new recession category that we're seeing in train stations now. They're not alcoholics or drug addicts or mentally ill. The husband lost his job, and there were medical bills he couldn't pay. They lost their house in Westchester County when they couldn't keep up their mortgage payments. So, here they are."
Oh please. What a load of cr@p. How many families from Westchester County are going to end up sleeping at a train station holding a bag of plates.....

I was thinking the exact same thing reading this article. It's nonsense. Is it possible that some of these people in their fancy burbs lost their jobs and have to move to a less fancy town and more modest housing because they're having difficulty finding a job or finding a job with comparable pay to what they were getting? Sure. But going from Ridgewood to being homeless in a train station? Hogwash. Unless the parents are indeed crackheads, and even then, extremely unlikely.
